Erma Hayman House | City of Boise, Department of Arts & History | Historic & Cultural Center | Branding
The Needs & Insights
Creation of a distinguished branding that respectfully nods to the era of the house and represents the family’s heritage while sitting comfortably within the Boise Arts and History historic site brand architecture.
Represent the social significance the Hayman family held within the community as part of the underrepresented and underserved community during pre-developed years in Boise Idaho.
Identity must capture the mid-century era style and working class household. Carry defining characteristics of the house such as sandstone brick foundation, floral wallpaper, and modest architecture.
The house itself is an iconic example of homes of that era in the River neighborhood. As all have been torn down and redeveloped as condos and townhomes, the Erma Hayman house is a noteworthy reminder of not just the homes that stood in this neighborhood but the diverse community that lived there.

Challenges & Solutions
Since much of the neighborhood and surrounding sites have been flipped and converted to large modern multi-family buildings, the house sits as a icon and a look into a part of Boise history that shares a story of modist familes and residents. Because of this, the intention for the logo was to capture the shape and essence of the house in a sharp but fashionable illustration. The shadow suggesting history, but the clear face of the house suggesting a relivant and significant story to be shared with the community.
